GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday reviewed government schemes and projects with Deputy Commissioners of Hailakandi, Cachar and Karimganj.

Reviewing various government schemes and projects, Chief Minister Sonowal asked the deputy commissioners to develop a “spirit of collectivism and belongingness” in implementing central and state government schemes, tour the districts extensively, address people frequently and adopt a rigorous working style to pass on the fruits of good governance to the people of the state.

The Chief Minister instructed the DCs and APDCL officials to ensure uninterrupted power and quality power to the people while reviewing the Saubhagya scheme. "Ensuring regular power supply is the greatest service to the people," he said while taking stock of the power scenario of the three districts of South Assam's Barak Valley.

Sonowal asked the DCs to complete rural electrification of the villages on a war footing.

The Chief Minister directed the DCs to ensure pure drinking water under Jal Jeevan Mission. "We have to ensure clean drinking water free from fluoride and arsenic to the people to keep diseases at bay," he added.

The Chief Minister asked the DCs to take local people into their confidence and involve them as important stakeholders for success of the government schemes in the state. "The Deputy Commissioners and the officials of the concerned departments have to make the people aware of any development initiatives at the very beginning. The beneficiaries and the local people have to be made aware of the benefits of any scheme to ensure transparency and accountability," he quipped.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the Swacch Bharat Mission of the three districts and asked the DCs to expedite the construction of Individual Household Latrines.

Sonowal asked the DCs to pitch in all efforts to ensure housing for all by 2022 under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "We have to ensure pucca house to the homeless people and to channelise all our energies towards realising the pet project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," he said.

He urged Deputy Commissioner, Hailakandi, Megh Nidhi Dahal to build an ideal village with lush green surroundings for those living in forest land by providing all sorts of facilities. "Let the ideal village for those people living in forest land be a role model for other districts of the state," he added.

Sonowal asked the DIG Southern Range and SPs of the three districts to deal firmly with the drug peddlers as they pose grave danger to the society. "Exemplary punishment must be meted out to those involved in drug peddling," he added.

Sonowal also reviewed the ongoing projects of NHs of the three districts and took note of the deplorable stretch from Dholeswari to Bhairobi bordering Mizoram.

Later the Chief Minister reviewed the law and order situation with DIG Southern Range, SPs and Second Commandant of 7th BSF. He took stock of the smart fencing work along the Indo-Bangla border at Latitilla-Dumabari in Karimganj district.

Minister for Environment and Forest, Parimal Suklabaidya, MLAs Sujamuddin Laskar and Nizamuddin Choudhury, District Development Commissioners, Additional Deputy Commissioners, CEOs of Zilla Parishad and district heads of various departments of the three districts were present during the review meeting.
