MUMBAI: A total lockdown for 1 week will be placed in Amravati district in Maharashtra from tomorrow evening due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in the state, said cabinet minister Yashomati Thakur.

 

During the 7- day lockdown, only essential services will be allowed to function.

The minister said the lockdown will be extended further if people do not follow safety rules.

 

This comes hours after the district administration in Pune shutdown schools and coaching center till February 28 after Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar met senior officials to assess the coronavirus situation in the district. Guidelines on this will be issued on Monday.

According to report, the number of COVID-19 cases is rising in Nagpur, Amaravati, Yavatmal, Akola, Mumbai, and Pune.

 

Over 6,281 new coronavirus cases and 40 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours in the state triggering the total number of cases at 20,93,913 including 48,439 active ones, while the recovery rate is 19,92,530. Till date 51,753 have died in the state due to COVID-19.

 

There is also fear of the new COVID-19 strain might have entered the state. Amid the coronavirus vaccination drive also the positive cases of coronavirus are on rising.
