1,100 cases of Arunachal-made liquor seized in Assam's Rangia

RANGIA: 1,100 Arunachal-made IMFL cases were seized by the sleuths of the EIB from a truck while it was on its way to Durgapur (West Bengal) from Dibrugarh in Assam on January 11.

An EIB team headed by Subash Baishya detained a truck bearing registration number UP 21CN 5156 at Society Chowk, Rangia under Kamrup District.

Subash Baishya also informed that the truck carrying Arunachal-made liquors was not carrying any valid permit.

The consignment papers available and produced by the truck driver, indicated that the consignment was for transporting PP Granules (14000 kg) worth Rs 5,60,000.

It is noteworthy to mention that the consignment was loaded at M/S G&P Plastics, Borsaikia Gaon, Maijan Road in Assam’s Dibrugarh and was supposed to get delivered at Polycon Industries in Durgapur in West Bengal. The transport service of the above consignment was carried out by M/S New Barik Transport Service Transporter from Kalain in Cachar, said the EIB official Baishya.

The truck driver identified as Md Qasim was apprehended and later handed over to Rangia police for further investigation, informed Subash Baishya.

Assam Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya has expressed his concern and asked the department to probe into the matter and book all the culprits at the earliest.
