15-Day-Old Baby and Mother Killed after Pak Breaches Ceasefire in J&K

Guwahati, July 29, 2019:

In a tragic incident, a 15-day-old baby has been killed, along with his mother and another civilian.

Reportedly, Pakistani troops violated ceasefire, resorting to intense mortar shelling and firing of small arms on forward posts and villages along the LoC in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The 15-day-old baby succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Arif (40), Fatima Jan (35), and the infant.

They were injured when hit by splinters from mortar shells in Shahpur sector. All the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to their injuries.

The shelling in the sector started at around 5 pm on Sunday along with Saujiyan sector, while the firing from across the border started in Mankote area of Mendhar sector.

The heavy firing caused much damage to civilian houses, as per sources.
