18,522 COVID-19 cases reported in last 24 hours in India; tally crosses 5 lakh

India recorded a massive spike in COVID-19 cases on June 26th, 2020. A total of 18,552 confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours pushing the total number to 5,08,953 on June 27th, 2020 including 1,97,387 active cases and 2,95,881 recoveries.

The country recorded 384 deaths in a day pushing the total fatalities to 15,685.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 6 thousand deaths. It has recorded 152765 corona cases with 79815 cured, 7106 deaths, and 65844 active cases. The western state is followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Delhi has corona 77240 cases with 47091 cured, 2492 deaths, and 27657 active cases. Tamil Nadu has 74622 positive cases with 41357 cured, 957 deaths 32308 active cases. Gujarat with 30095 COVID-19 cases, so far, has 22030 have been cured, 1771 deaths, and 6294 active cases.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand became the second state after West Bengal to extend the lockdown till July 31st, 2020. “Considering the seriousness of the situation, the state government has decided to extend the lockdown till 31 July,” Chief Minister Hemant Soren tweeted.

In Northeast India, Assam registered the highest COVID-19 cases. It has recorded 6919 COVID-19 cases; of which 4247 have been cured and discharged and 2660 are active cases. The state government on June 26th, 2020, enforced complete lockdown in Guwahati with effect from June 28th, 2020 midnight for 14 days to contain the spread of the COVID-19. Guwahati has seen a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases without travel history. The state if followed by Tripura and Nagaland.

Globally, the infections soared to 9,778,674 on Thursday and the death toll rose to 4,93,674. Also, as many as 4,932,392 people have recovered across the world.
