20-year old Hyderabad boy becomes “World’s Fastest Human Calculator” breaking Shakuntala Devi’s record

A 20-year-old Neelakanta Bhanu Prakash from Hyderabad has won the title ‘World’s Fastest Human Calculator’ after winning first-ever gold for India in Mental Calculation World Championship at Mind Sports Olympiad (MSO).

Neelakanta won the event that was held on the 15th of August, 2020 virtually with 30 participants in the age group of 13 and 50 years. Participants from 13 countries including UK, Germany, UAE, France, Greece, and Lebanon took part in the contest.

Neelakanta was miles ahead of the Lebanese contender, who came second with a massive 65 points difference. The third place was secured by a contestant from UAE.

A report by ANI, Bhanu Prakash told the agency that his brain is capable of calculating quicker than the speed of a calculator. These records were earlier held by Math maestros like Scott Flansburg and Shakuntala Devi and Bhanu Prakash believes that he has done his bit to take India to the global level of mathematics.

He also said that the judges were spellbound by the speed at which he was solving the number problems and they asked him to perform more calculations to confirm his accuracy.

Neelakanta broke the record of Shakuntala Devi, Indian writer, and mental calculator. She has begged her a place in the 1982nd edition of The Guinness Book of World Records.
