29 Killed as Bus Falls into Drain on Yamuna Expressway

Lucknow, July 8, 2019:

At least 29 passengers were killed and several injured when an UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus hit the divider and fell through a gap between two flyovers on the Yamuna Expressway in the wee hours of the morning on July 8.

There were more than 50 passengers on the bus which plunged 40 feet down before hitting the ground.

Police sources have confirmed that an UPSRTC Janrath bus coming to Delhi from Lucknow was involved in an accident around 5 a.m. after hitting the railing on the Yamuna Expressway near milestone 161 under the Etmadpur police station.

Police and rescue personnel reached the spot immediately, and 29 people were declared dead by the doctors.

As per an inquiry, it was found that the driver fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle. Investigations are on to find the exact cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Roadways has announced an ex gratia of ₹5 lakh the kin of the deceased.
