The clash erupted during the statewide protest launched by the CPI (M) on 12-point charter of demands. Most of the injured were in Rupaichari in South Tripura district. Later, the police detained hundreds of those involved in the clash. Among the 12 injured, seven are from CPI(M) and five are BJP supporters.

Though the police detained around 4,600 people across the state for violating Section 151.  No complaint have been filed yet. Briefing the media, CPI(M) state secretary Goutam Das said his party activists came under attack from the BJP in different places where they tried to observe their protest, and demanded police action.

Reacting to the allegations, BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya said five BJP workers were grievously wounded in the clash and are currently being treated in hospital.

Bhattacharya claimed it to be a pre-planned attack of the CPI (M). Twelve supporters of our party were injured and released after primary treatment. Five others were grievously injured and are hospitalised now,” said Bhattacharya.
