Over 4 lakh contraceptive tablets smuggled from Bangladesh seized in Dhubri

DHUBRI: Acting on a tip-off Dhubri Police have raided a house in Ironjongla, Newghat area in Dhubri and recovered more than four lakhs of contraceptive Sukhi tablets which were illegally brought from Bangladesh and hidden inside plastic sacks.

Some miscreants smuggled contraceptive Sukhi tablets from Bangladesh and stored them in one Shamsul Haque's resident in Newghat, Ironjongla.

Police stated that these contraceptive tables are distributed in the neighbouring country, free of cost and has been smuggled to Dhubri district from time to time.

Shamsul Haque has been allegedly selling Bangladesh's Sukhi tablets in several districts of Assam for a while, informed the police.

Police apprehended Shamsul Haque's cousin, Mozammel Haque who was allegedly involved in the business and during the raid, Mozammel managed to escape from the spot.

Dhubri police have continued to interrogate arrested Mozammel Haque at Dhubri Sadar police station said Partha Pratim Gogoi, Officer in charge, Dhubri.
