GUWAHATI: Assam’s daily COVID-19 cases today surged to of 573 taking the state's cumulative tally to 2,22,940.

On the other hand, the death count climbed to 1,127 with four more fatalities. Kamrup (Metro), Nagaon, Karimganj and Lakhimpur recorded one death each.

Kamrup (M) continued to top the chart with 245 cases, followed by Kamrup with 47, Nagaon 33 and Sonitpur 30 cases.

Currently, there are 4,069 active cases in the state. As many as 2,16,397 people have recovered from the infection so far with 113 discharged today.

As many as 32,421 samples were tested during the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of samples tested so far has risen to 77,64,292.

Meanwhile, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal today urged the people to strictly follow the COVID-19 guidelines set by the health department.

Sonowal also appealed to the people to avoid breaking the rules and remain united in this fight against the dreaded disease.

Moreover, the chief minister said that the screening process have been enhanced at the airports. COVID testing has also been made available at the airports.
