5-year-old among 91 protesters killed on bloody day in Myanmar

BURMA: Over 90 protesters across Myanmar were killed today by security forces in one of the bloodiest days of demonstrations since a military coup last month.

Junta leader Senior General Min Aung said the deadly crackdown came on Armed Forces Day, during a parade in the capital Naypyitaw to commemorate the event.

He said "that the military will defend the people and aspire for democracy."

According to reports, protesters face being shot "in the head and back". Despite that, anti-coup protesters against the February 1 coup took to the streets of Yangon, Mandalay, and other cities.

According to reports, a young boy of around five years old was among at least 29 people killed in Mandalay while at least 24 people were killed in Yangon, Myanmar.

Reports also suggest that Dr. Sasa, a spokesman for an anti-junta group CRPH, said “it is a day of shame for the armed forces."

Meanwhile, the Karen National Union, one of Myanmar's two dozen ethnic armed groups, claimed control of an army post near the Thai border, killing ten people, including a lieutenant colonel, and losing one of its soldiers.
