5th Red panda of season born in Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park

DARJEELING: The count of the red panda, listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red list has increased to 25 in Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park (PNHZP), in Darjeeling of West Bengal, with the birth of a cub.

A female red panda, named as Yeshi gave birth to a cub on July 9.

The red panda is a carnivore native to the eastern Himalayas and south-western China.

They are one of the critical health indicators of the Himalayan Ecosystem.

Dharmdeo Rai, Director of PNHZP, said that this was the 5th red panda cub of the season and both the mother and cub were doing fine and were being under constant watch.

“I am overjoyed to share the news that Yeshi, the mother panda, has given birth to a baby cub at the Topkeydara Conservation Breeding centre of PNHZP." said Dharmdeo Rai.
