THOWRA: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today visited Thowra constituency of Assam to campaign for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sushanta Borgohain for the upcoming Assam Assembly by-polls scheduled for October 30, 2021.

Speaking at the event, CM Sarma said that Borgohain has decided to join the saffron party, wishing the Thowra constituency well-being and development. Joining the party has no personal benefit.

Therefore, for the all-round development of the constituency and the region, the people of Thowra must vote for Sushanta Borgohain and should extend their full support.

"Since Borgohain and Kushal Dowari, former MLA of Thowra, have been working tirelessly, the constituency's progress is guaranteed," he added.

Speaking about the government's ‘Orunodoi’ scheme, CM Sarma said that the Orunodoi scheme is providing Financial Assistance of Rs. 830 to at least 42 lakh households in the state by 10 of every month.

In Thowra as many as 15,000 families were selected to receive the benefits of the Orunodoi scheme, and within the next three months at least 6000 more families in Thowra constituency will be benefited from ‘Orunodoi’ scheme, said  CM Sarna.

Furthermore, the Rs 830 will be increased to 1,000 in the next five months, and would thus continue to rise over time, he added.

As Assam has a total number of 126 constituencies in the legislative assembly, if BJP crosses the magic number of 64 alone after this by-election then it will become the only dominating political party in the house and will be able to free themselves from the alliance, with UPPL and Asom Gana Parishad, if wanted.

The by-elections for the vacant Majuli seat, which was left vacant for the AJP, have yet to be scheduled because its representative, Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal, resigned from the assembly hours after the Election Commission announced the poll schedule.

Counting of votes will be held on November 2 and the full election process will be concluded by November 5.
