Hailakandi, July 11, 2019:

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK) is coming up in Hailakandi district soon.

District Project Manager, Assam Skill Development Mission, Pinak Choudhury disclosed that an MoU has been signed between National Skill Development Corporation and training partner, Madhavi Foundation, New Delhi recently.

Choudhury said the centre, a flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), has been given the allotted target to provide skill development training to 750 unemployed youth annually.

There will be four skilling courses viz., fitter fabrication, plumber, distribution lineman and home appliance maker. "The objective of the skill certification course is to enable a large number of unemployed youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood," said Choudhury.

The model training centre envisages creating benchmark institutions that demonstrate aspirational value for competency-based skill development training. It will focus on elements of quality, sustainability, and connection with stakeholders in skills delivery process and in transforming from a mandate-driven footloose model to a sustainable institutional model.

A PMKK will be assured a training mandate for three years, under the Pradhan Mantri Kushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), as per common norms, subject to capacity and utilization of the centre.

The state-of-the-art centre coming up at Lakshmishar Road near Shani Mandir on the outskirts of Hailakandi town will start functioning from September this year.

Construction of the infrastructure is going on in full steam and is expected to be completed next month.

The PMKVY, approved by MSDE for the next four years till 2020 with a whopping budgetary allocation for Rs.12,000 crores, is set to benefit 10 million youth.
