Guwahati, January 23, 2020:

With the elections in the national capital New Delhi approaching fast, the Assam Unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), stepping up its fight against the rival BJP party, launched an agitation against the controversial amendment of the Citizenship Act by the saffron power at the Centre.

Staging a sit it-protest here, the workers of the party raised slogans decrying the BJP party and warned the Centre that the agitation shall continue if the legislation is not rolled back.

"The Government has hatched a conspiracy...they are playing with the people...with the economy...the GDP is 4.5...it is less than Bangladesh and Pakistan.  India has to ponder upon how to develop the heath sector...the education sector...the unemployment issue. They are mum on these issues. Small kids are asking why their fees is being raised....why their educational facilities are not being upgraded. Instead of resolving their problems, the Government officials barged into their institutions and beat the students black-and-blue", said Bandip Dutta, the AAP's State Secretary.

The AAP leader further urged the people, and especially the youth, to oppose these policies. "This is the youngest country in the country...this country does not belong to Modi, Shah, Himanta Biswa Sarma, or Sarbananda Sonowal, this belongs to you", he added, and stated that India must once again adopt the policy of 'poorna swaraj' as propounded by Congress during India's freedom struggle against the British Empire.
