New Delhi, May 21, 2019:

The All Assam Minorities Students’ Union (AAMSU) on Tuesday staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi following the allegations of discrepancies in the claims and objections in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft.

The protest was staged against NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela, and other regional organizations for allegedly harassing people in the name of registering objections before the NRC publication.

The AAMSU demanded an examination of DNAs, for those who are unable to produce required proofs of being an Indian Citizen, in order to include names in the NRC list. The minority students’ union further alleged that Prateek Hajela is proceeding the operations by keeping the Supreme Court in complete darkness.

It also claimed that not disclosing the identity of the complainant is against fundamental rights and demanded punishment for those who have lodged false complaints.

The members of the students’ union voiced their anger at the alleged injustices on the streets of New Delhi by shouting slogans like “Axom Sarkar Haye Haye", "Kendriya Sarkar Haye Haye", etc.

It may be mentioned that the organization had earlier claimed that organizations like ABSU and AASU have been forcing people to make false Objections against genuine minority citizens. The AAMSU has claimed that a conspiracy is afoot to deprive genuine citizens as it was reported in print as well as electronic media that about 1,300 Objections were filed up to 30.12.2018, but the numbers rose up to more than 2.5 lakhs on the last date i.e. 31.12.2018.

The AAMSU has also staged protests in several parts of Assam to protest against the NRC process.

Besides these, the Supreme Court has issued an order to publish the final draft of the NRC by July 31. The apex court further stated in the order that the date of publication of the final draft will not be extended.
