Guwahati, February 11, 2019:

Life in several districts of Assam has come to a standstill after a 12 hours-bandh has been called by the All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) in the district. Tires have been burned and slogans have been raised by the bandh supporters.

Meanwhile, the organization has accused the Government of politicizing the issue of allotment of ST status to six communities of Assam, including the tea tribes community.

They have further questioned why the ‘adivasis’ are not getting ST status in Assam, despite being granted the privilege in other parts of the country.

Scenes from Udalguri and Biswanath have also emerged with shows members of the organization participating in similar agitations against the Government.
