The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) are set to form new political party within a week, said AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath.Nath said that if everything goes well then the new political party will be floated in next seven days.

The AASU and AJYCP formed an 18-member ‘Assam Advisory Committee’ to suggest on their political moves.

Earlier, sources claimed that the political party to be launched by the AASU and AJYCP is likely to contest 80-100 seats in the assembly elections in Assam due early next year. Though the AASU and AJYCP will not forge any pre-poll alliance with the Congress or be part of its proposed ”Grand Alliance”, it is open for an understanding with the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS).

The election to the 126-member Assam assembly is likely to be held in March-April next year. The 2016 elections gave a fractured mandate and no party has an absolute majority in the current House.

The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) too has announced that it will float a regional political party soon. KMSS president Vasco D Saikia recently said that the new party would be launched by October this year and it will contest the assembly electi Saikia said that all preparations have been made to float the party by October under the able leadership of its chief advisor Akhil Gogoi who is lodged in Guwahati central jail for the last eight months. Saikia further added that Akhil Gogoi would be the chief ministerial candidate of the party. He claimed that the party would be a uncompromising and secular one and it will protect the interests of the indigenous people of the state.ons to be held next year.
