Guwahati, September 11, 2019:

Terming the current leadership of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) as 'defeated warriors', BJP minority Mominul Islam has alleged that they have bent their knees in front of illegal Bangladeshis.

Awal said this while discussing the AASU's General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi's allegations against Assam's Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Awal further slammed the AASU leaders for saying that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be the "savior" of Assam.

"AASU and Congress are playing the same tune these days", he further alleged. He further queried why the AASU is staying silent despite the inclusion of scores of Bangladeshis in the final NRC list. Awal further alleged that the Assam Government was being kept out of the NRC proceedings to protect the interests of the Bangladeshi immigrants, adding that the people of Assam are concerned due to the negligent attitude of the three main AASU leaders.

Awal further contended that since the AASU leaders celebrated the publication of the final NRC draft, did they support the inclusion of alleged Bangladeshi nationals in the list as well? He also questioned why the AASU is staying mum after lakhs of Koch Rajbongshis, Karbis, Tiwas, Gorkhas, and other indigenous communities were being excluded from the list.

It may be mentioned here that the Mominul made his allegations after the AASU General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi had lashed out at Assam CM Sarbanda Sonowal due to his silence over the implementation of the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
