Assam: AASU stages protest in Margherita after alleged attack by BJP workers

Margherita: All Assam Students' Union (AASU) members of Margherita today staged a road blockade along the National Highway 51 road near the Segunbari Tiniali Margherita and burnt tyres.

Chintu Gogoi, AASU president in Margherita, said: "On friday night, we went to Balijan Dirok tea estate under Margherita Constituency where we saw Margherita BJP members distributing wine, cash and meat to tea garden workers. When we protested over it, BJP members Kajol Tossa, Bitupan Baruah Sharma, Pradip Singh, Ramzaan Ali, Mintu Koch and Nirmal Urang attacked us with iron rods and sharp weapons and tried to kill all of us."

"On friday night, the Margherita AASU staged a protest near the Margherita police station but nobody was arrested. On Saturday, all the 6 BJP members were given bail and now they are roaming freely under the sky," he added.

The protest was suspended on Saturday due to the first phase of the election, but on Sunday, Margherita AASU members and locals staged a dharna at NH 51 road Segunbari Tiniali Margherita and burnt tyres to register their protest.

Raja Bolimra, Tinsukia AASU president, joining the protest, said that the AASU shall intensify their additional programme until all the 6 BJP accused members are arrested.
