Act of kindness: Jawans gift wheelchair to 110-year-old villager in Nagaland's Mon

TUENSANG: Health facilities in the easternmost reaches of Nagaland are scarce. In fact, it is said that an afflicted person has to travel miles in order to find proper medical treatment in eastern Nagaland. Taking this into consideration, army jawans posted at the border have undertaken some initiatives to help some of the unfortunate lot in the village areas.

As part of its outreach programme, the jawans of the Tuensang Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) on January 19 handed over a wheelchair to a 110-year-old man residing in a remote border village of Wangti region in Mon district of Nagaland in presence of village authorities, an official release said.

Mon district is the northernmost district of Nagaland and shares a border with the neighbouring country of Myanmar. Currently, the Assam Rifles is conducting 'Medical Camps' in some of the remoter villages in the area.
