AGARTALA: The Tripura government has declared the Kanchanpur area of North district as the epicenter of the African Swine Fever after some samples of pig tissue were found to be positive for the disease.

The samples were sent to the North Eastern Regional Disease Diagnostic Lab (NERDDL), Guwahati, and after testing RT PCR on a sample it was found that it contained the African swine fever virus.

Therefore, to prevent the infection and to control the disease, the Exotic Pig Breeding Farm in Kanchanpur has been declared as the epicenter of the disease under the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animal Act.

According to this law, a 1 km area around the place of origin will be considered an infected zone and a 10 km area will be considered a surveillance zone. Therefore, some restrictions have been issued on the basis of this announcement from the Department of Animal Resources Development.
