After Pramod Bodo, NDFB Leader Gobinda Basumatary Joins UPPL in Run Up to BTC Polls

Udalguri, March 5, 2020:

Amid blowing winds of political change ahead of the ensuing polls in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), another major shake-up in the political scenario has been witnessed. This time, National Democratic of Bodoland (Progressive) supremo Gobinda Basumatary has joined the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL).

Confirming this to Inside Northeast, Gobinda Basumatary said that the party is currently holding meetings to discuss the strategy ahead of the ensuing elections in the 4-member Council.

In Udalguri, the leader joined the UPPL party amid much fanfare. Robindra Basumatary, the President of Udalguri's UPPL unit, welcomed Basumatary into the party's fold ahead of the elections.

After joining, Basumatary launched into a tirade against current BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, and expressed that the UPPL party will form the Government.

Basumatary further opined that if the BTR treaty is implemented in letter and spirit, peace and development will reign supreme in the region.

This comes on the heels of Bodo student leader Pramod Boro's induction into the party. Boro, who was inducted on February 22, was later appointed as the President of the party that seeks to topple current rulers, the Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People's Front (BPF).
