GUWAHATI: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) this evening released its list of six candidates for the second phase of Assam assembly elections to be held on April 1.

Apart from two candidates in Central Assam’s Raha and Jamunamukh, the BJP ally has named three candidates from Barak Valley constituencies.

While Bishnu Das has been nominated from Raha, Saddikulla Bhuiya is named for Jamunamukh. Habibur Rahman will contest from Dalgaon.

In the Barak Valley, Aziz Ahmed Khan will contest from Karimganj (South), Aptabuddin Laskar is named in Algapur and Sabbir Ahmed is pitched in Patharkandi.

In the BJP-AGP alliance, the saffron party has parted with almost all the minority community voters dominated constituencies with the AGP. The third ally in the alliance, United People’s Party-Liberal has been allotted eight seats.

The AGP had won 12 seats in the 2016 elections that the party fought as an ally with the BJP. The party has this time been denied its stronghold Barhampur seat, that was represented by two-time chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta for six times. The BJP has pitched its own candidate Jitu Goswami instead.
