AGP Officially Launches New Students’ Organisation 'Asom Chatra Parishad'

Guwahati, November 21, 2019:

Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), after much speculation, has launched its brand new students’ organsiation – Asom Chatra Parishad.

The Asom Chatra Parishad was officially launched in Guwahati’s Kalakshetra, to begin a new chapter in Assam student politics. “AGP has been brainstorming on the requirement of a new students’ organisation and the Asom Chatra Parishad, our student body, is a result of the many discussions held over the past years,” said AGP President and Agriculture Minister, Atul Bora.

He added that the students of Assam have been contributing to all the aspects of the society. “We had felt the need for a students’ union time and again, and therefore, the decision of launching the new wing was finally initiated,” he added.

AGP believes that the Asom Chatra Parishad will begin a new chapter in the history of Assam. Assam’s biggest regional party has finally formed its own student organisation to attract the youths of Assam and strengthen its base in the state.

The motive of AGP behind starting its own students’ union is to attract new future leaders and build a stronger regional presence. The formation of AGP’s new student organisation is seen as an interesting turn in regional politics of Assam.

Earlier, AASU leaders would go on to join the regional party, however, the AGP launching its own student wings suggests that cracks are starting to form in the long-standing relationship between the AGP and Assam's most-influential student body, the AASU.
