GUWAHATI: The Asom Gana Parishad’s (AGP) students wing Asom Chatra Parishad (ACP) today warned the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) not to make any comment against AGP leaders or flash black flags at them.

“The AASU is supposed to be a student’s organisation, not a political outfit. We warn them not to flash black flags at AGP leaders here and there. It will not be tolerated any more. Else, we can also flash flags of red, yellow, blue and all others colours at them,” said ACP president Trinayan Baruah here today.

He was referring to AASU protesters flashing black flags at AGP and BJP leaders over the past year following the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019. The AGP is stated to have voted in favour of the Bill.

“The AASU nowadays recites the tongue of a political party. The students’ organisation has lost its apolitical character as well as its credibility,” Baruah added.

AGP president Atul Bora, who was also present in an ACP conclave here today, also criticised the AASU leadership saying: “The AASU has been reduced to an outfit that sells political mantels. The AASU has lost its revolutionary voice and adopted the tongue of political outfits. It should try to retain its apolitical character.”

The AASU has been supporting the newly floated Assam Jatiya Parishad in the ensuing elections.
