Kohima, March 17, 2019:

The Congress party has appealed to all like-minded political parties, societies and organizations to support K.L. Chishi, former CM of the state, as INC candidate for the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha election.

In a statement, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee President K Therie said: “We have chosen Shri. K. L. Chishi as INC candidate after wide consultations to accommodate the views of like-minded parties, societies, and groups. We understand with their support, we would be much stronger. He is a matured, seasoned and tested statesman."

The Nagaland Congress also slammed the AGP party and claimed that the party’s “flip-flop stand” has given a wrong impression of the Northeast. “We are experiencing AGP’s flip-flop stand which has brought mistrust and shame before the nation. They have withdrawn from the NDA and NEDA alliances protesting against CAB. Two days ago they have again sealed alliance in sharing seats after Amit Shah declared to pass CAB if given an opportunity to rule again on 17 February at Guwahati. This has given the nation a wrong impression of the NE and we must not repeat this in Nagaland. We must defeat this idea of Amit Shah which is detrimental not only to the interests of Nagaland, but the entire NE.”

“Given the opportunity at the Centre, Congress assures to scrap CAB. We shall defend our faith at all costs. We also assure we shall deliver a solution. Indian National Congress and the founding fathers of Nagaland Congress have delivered a political solution in the past and therefore, we are enjoying the fruits of Statehood and are protected under Art. 371(A). Give us another chance to deliver and if we do not, throw us out”, Therie added.
