GUWAHATI: Jailed 'Raijor Dal' president Akhil Gogoi penning an open letter to the people of Assam has accused the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of conspiring with the Union and the State Governments to ruin him. He has also accused Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of leading this conspiracy as NIA filed additional charges against Gogoi yesterday.

"This a joint conspiracy against me by the Assam Government, the Central Government and NIA. Most probably Assam CM is taking the lead in it. I want the public's help to overthrow this conspiracy united together," Akhil wrote in his letter.

Akhil Gogoi was arrested in December 2016 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, (UAPA) for his alleged role in violent anti-CAA protests and probable nexus with the Maoists.

"After winning from historic Sibsagar constituency on May 2, 2021, the government's job was to set me free because it was people's mandate," Gogoi added further.

A special NIA court has discharged Gogoi from his Chabua Police Station case on June 25 last. Another case filed in Chandmari Police Station is to be heard in the same court.

"The court discharged me from my Chabua Police Station case. The court did not even feel the necessity to hear the case. I was under custody for the last one and a half years for a case NIA failed to frame any charge against," said Gogoi.

"The central BJP government uses CID and ED against opposition political leaders to make them surrender and now they are using NIA for the same and it's getting clear," Gogoi further alleged.

Gogoi also asserted that after getting discharged from one NIA case, he should have been discharged from the Chandmari case immediately "if the government had believed in democracy."

"First they tried to delay my hearing of Chandmari case. NIA advocate asked for a week" Gogoi said. "Now the biggest conspiracy is to file some additional charges against me in between by presenting a protected witness who gave a statement that I run all the syndicates in Assam from bettle nuts, cow to honey trapping. Now from the earlier label of 'terrorist' I have now become a cow thief."

Gogoi said that one of the protected witnesses has introduced a photograph claimed to be of Gogoi allegedly taking martial arts training in Jharkhand. Gogoi termed the claim and photograph "funny".

As the court has granted 10 more days to Advocate General of Assam Debojit Saikia for the hearing from today Gogoi said, "This is frightening, never happened-never seen kind of conspiracy. This is to end my life."
