GUWAHATI: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has claimed Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi an agent of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who is trying to break the Grand Alliance.

This statement came in the backdrop of a meeting of the Core Committee of Assam Congress held on Monday in Guwahati to take decisions on parties to be included in the Grand Alliance to fight the by-polls.

The Congress has indirectly expressed its disinterest in keeping AIUDF in Grand Alliance. Party leaders like Gaurav Gogoi, Bhupen Borah have publicly expressed willingness to fight the by-polls without AIUDF.

Akhil Gogoi's Raijor Dal is not a partner of the Grand Alliance yet. However, Gogoi is in a series of discussion with the Congress top brass regarding joining the alliance. But Gogoi on many occasions has made his stand clear that he will not come under an alliance with Congress if AIUDF is a party to it.

Addressing the press, General Secretary of AIUDF, Aminul Islam said, “Before the Assembly elections even though AIUDF, Congress and other parties like CPI, CPM etc. requested Akhil Gogoi to join the Grand Alliance to defeat the BJP, he did not agree and indirectly helped them to win. This time also Akhil is trying to break the Grand Alliance. He is working as an agent of BJP.”

Referring to Akhil Gogoi’s meeting with BJP Minister Pijush Hazarika on Sunday in New Delhi, Aminul Islam went on to say that Akhil Gogoi is being used by BJP.

“The Bharatiya Janata Party is using Akhil Gogoi to break the Grand Alliance. At this moment, Congress does not have the strength of defeating BJP alone. The BJP is pushing Gogoi to join the alliance only to break it down,” stated the party.
