GUWAHATI: Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and the Raijor Dal have predicted that the ensuing polls will be a battle between regional parties and national parties. Categorically ruling out an alliance with national parties, vowed that they will stay miles away from the BJP, Congress, and AIUDF.

As expected, the two newly-floated Assam regional parties have forged an electoral alliance ahead of the polls due sometime in April.

AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi and party leader Jagadish Bhuyan met arrested Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital on Thursday and finalized the alliance.

Holding a joint press conference today, the two regional organizations declared that their coming has come at a time when the state of Assam is in 'dire straits' due to the controversial 'CAA' and other anti-indigenous policies of the BJP-led government.

Issuing a release, the AJP and RD stated, "The regional parties have been birthed to contest the polls in 2021. Both the parties believe that in the ensuing polls, the regional powers will be challenged by national political parties. The BJP has hurt the federal structure of the country. Therefore, we have compelled to take steps to ensure that there is no division of votes among the regional powers. Both the parties will try to bring the other regional parties under the same umbrella, while at the same time, maintaining a safe safe distance from BJP, Congress, and AIUDF."

The parties further added that parties whose aim is to foil the BJP's plan to settle foreigners on Assamese soil and repeal the 'CAA' must not contest the polls separately as it could hurt their chances.

Stating that both the Centre and State governments have "insulted" Assam, the two regional powers claimed that the ruling dispensation has heaped anti-people policies on the people of Assam against their will.
