New Delhi, September 14, 2019:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has recently opined that the widely-spoken Hindi is the language which can keep India united.

On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, Amit Shah said that widely-spoken Hindi is the language which can keep the nation united.

On the occasion, Shah also tweeted, ""Today, on the occasion of Hindi Day, I appeal to all the citizens of the country that we should increase the use of our mother tongue and also use the Hindi language as one language to realise the dreams of Bapu and iron man Sardar Patel. Happy Hindi Day," Amit Shah said."

This stand was also reiterated by senior BJP leader, JP Nadda, who tweeted, "Hindi is the most spoken and understood language across India, which unites all of us in the thread of unity and is also our identity in the world. Wish you all a very Happy Hindi Day. Let us all increase the use of Hindi in our daily lives and inspire others as well."

However, the problem with the BJP leadership's stand is that, Hindi is hardly spoken in several parts of the country, Including India's Northeast, and southern India. Moreover, the country is often known for its 'unity in diversity', and the conglomeration of the myriad cultures, traditions, and yes, languages as well.

Meanwhile, DMK chief MK Stalin on Saturday reiterated his protest against “imposition of Hindi”. Referring to a remark by Union Home Minister Amit Shah wherein he advocated Hindi as India’s national language, Stalin said that the statement would affect the unity of the country.
