Amit Shah on a two-day visit to Assam & Meghalaya from tomorrow

GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Guwahati on January 23 on a two-day visit to Assam and Meghalaya.

During the visit, Shah will launch the Ayushman Bharat healthcare scheme for central paramilitary force personnel on Saturday in presence of Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr.Harsh Vardhan. He will then attend the 69th plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong the same day.

According to the officials, over the last 50 years, the NEC, under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), has been instrumental in setting in motion a new economic endeavour aimed at removing the basic handicaps that stood in the way of normal development of the region and has ushered in an era of new hope in this backward area full of great potentialities.

On Sunday, Shah will return to Assam and attend a programme to celebrate the first anniversary of the signing of the Bodoland Territorial Region Accord, which provides for political rights, economic package to the Bodo tribals living in Assam, at Kokrajhar.

Amit Shah will also address a BJP rally at Kendukuchi in Nalbari district of the state where the assembly election is due in March-April.

Earlier on Thursday, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma stated that the Civil Society Organizations (CSO) pushing for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya are now seeking an audience with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
