Guwahati, December 9, 2019:

Amid the protests by the masses of the North-Eastern states against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is all set to table the contentious bill at the Lok Sabha later today. The contentious Citizenship Bill is scheduled to be introduced in the Lok Sabha at 12 pm.

Meanwhile, 16 organizations and tribal student bodies have called a 12-hour 'Assam bandh' to protest against the Bill.

The states of North East, especially Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Manipur on Monday have erupted in massive protests against the Bill. 'Bandhs' have also been declared in Assam and Tripura by the indigenous organizations. The people across the state of Assam have launched mass protests with the active participation of students, teachers, intellectuals, students’ bodies, and common citizens.

Meanwhile, Senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut in a tweet urged Home Minister Amit Shah not to give voting rights to immigrants Hindus who will be given Indian citizenship under the CAB.

On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a whip asking all the BJP MPs to be present in the Parliament, while the bill is being discussed. BJP has a majority of 303 out of 545 members in the House, which would suggest that the Bill is all set to pass easily.
