"Subedar Swatantra Singh was a brave, highly motivated and a sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty," the official added.

According to official reports, Singh hailed from the Odiyari village in Pauri Gargwal district of Uttarakhand.

This was reported days after an Indian Army jawan was martyred in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district last Saturday.

“The unprovoked firing from across the border in Lam area of Nowshera sector took place around 1 am, resulting in critical injuries to a havaldar, who died later,” an army official informed the media.

The Indian Army retaliated strongly to silence the Pakistani infiltrators, and cross-border firing between the two sides continued for quite some time, they added.
