Arrangements complete for Lok Sabha polls in Hailakandi district

For the smooth conduct of Lok Sabha elections in three assembly constituencies in Hailakandi district, that fall under 1HP Karimganj SC constituency, all the necessary arrangements, including the adequate deployment of security personnel has been made.

Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer, Keerthi Jalli said, "Randomization of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and polling parties have been completed. The third and final training for presiding and polling officials have been completed on Monday, Polling parties, along with consignments for the  remote and inaccessible booths and other polling stations will leave for their destinations on Wednesday in the wee hours."

On the security arrangements for the polls, Superintendent of Police, Mohneesh Mishra said, "We have deployed adequate companies of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) comprising CRPF, IRBn, along with Assam Police personnel."

Reviewing the overall arrangements prior to the polls on Sunday, DEO Jalli, General Election Observer, Abhinav Chandra, SP Mishra, and Police Observer, Sanjeev Kalra informed media that additional static sector officers along with 93 executive magistrates and 80 micro observers have been deployed for smooth conduct of the polls. “Critical polling stations would be guarded by the CAPF besides the state police to ensure peaceful voting,” they said.

The flying squads and static surveillance team, appointed by the Election Commission, along with the state police have till now seized cash over Rupees 14 lakh and 950-gram narcotic drugs in the district.

2,924 polling personnel together with 1,312 presiding and first polling officials have been engaged for the polls.

A 24x7 control room has been set up with a toll-free number for anyone to lodge complaints on any poll-related incident. DEO Jalli and SP Mishra asked the people to lodge genuine complaints which would be addressed to forthwith.

A total of 4,82,744 voters, including 2,28,760 women, are eligible to exercise their franchise in 656 polling stations spread across the district.

There are also 991 odd persons with disabilities (PwDs) voters in the district.

Six polling stations manned by women polling personnel have been set up exclusively for female voters.

The district has 200 vulnerable and critical polling stations.
