Shillong, December 22, 2019:

Folk-fusion band Summersalt, along with friends from the Artistes Community staged a musical expression called ‘Music for Protection and Future of the People’ on Saturday in Meghalaya capital Shillong.

The event, that was held at the State Central Library's outdoor premises in Shillong witnessed the participation of renowned Shillong-based blues outfit Soulmate, internationally-acclaimed Aroha Junior Choir, among others.

The purpose of the gathering of artistes was to call upon people to come together in the turbulent times, and to spread a message of peace, amity and good cheer at the beginning of the holiday season.

This citizen-based event was also held in consultation with prominent social thinkers of the state and with the backing of the Shillong Press Club. The organisers expressed hope that music and arts will act as a healing balm to the nation in times of strife.

Meanwhile, over in Assam, the artist society has been holding numerous demonstrations against the Citizenship Amendment Act, which is seen as a threat to dilute the cultural, linguistic, and ethnic identity of the State.

Artists such as Zubeen Garg, Barsha Rani Bishaya, Dikshu, among several others, have given the clarion call to the masses to organize massive protests, which, it is believed, could lead to the downfall of the CAA.
