Itanagar, August 31, 2019:

Bringing laurels to the state of Arunachal, a Class 10 boy from Arunachal Pradesh, Kumar Lige Basar, has been chosen to witness the landing of India's Chandrayaan-2 with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Lige, who is a student of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Oyan, was selected through the Chandrayaan quiz competition.

Reacting to this achievement, his school, VKV Oyan, issued a statement, which read “Our happiness knew no bounds when we heard about your selection. In the reputed pages of Oyan VKV history you could find a marvellous place.

Arunachal Chief Minister too lauded the youngster for his remarkable achievement. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "Feels proud to know that a Class X student from Arunachal, Kumar Lige Basar of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Oyan will join Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji to witness the landing of Chandrayaan 2 selected through Chandrayaan quiz competition. Congratulations Lige Basar!"

It may be added here that Ribait Phawa, an NCC cadet and student of Rama Krishna Mission School, Sohra has been selected to witness the landing of Chandrayaan-2.

Developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the mission was launched from the second launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre on 22 July 2019 at 2.43 PM IST (09:13 UTC) to the Moon by a Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV Mk III). It consists of a lunar orbiter, a lander, and a lunar rover named Pragyan, all of which were developed in India. The main scientific objective is to map the location and abundance of lunar water.

The Chandrayaan-2 will touch down on the moon on September 7.
