Arunachal Cabinet adopts Pakke Tiger Reserve 2047 declaration for sustainable development

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Cabinet meeting was for the first time held outside State capital Itanagar at an unusual location — Pakke Tiger Reserve. The Cabinet also adopted the Pakke Tiger Reserve 2047 declaration on climate change-resilient and responsive Arunachal Pradesh aimed at lowering emissions and sustainable development.

Apart from adopting the 'Climate Change Resilient and Responsive Arunachal Pradesh' declaration, the State Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, in its sitting at Pakke Tiger Reserve, Seijosa has taken some major decisions with a view to further improve governance and service delivery.

In the cabinet, the Chief Minister launched the e-Cabinet portal making the top decision making body to go paperless.

Taking to his twitter handle, Khandu wrote: "Scripting history at Seijosa. Arunachal cabinet is now paperless. Launched the #eCabinet portal today during the State Cabinet meeting held at #PakkeTigerReserve. This paperless mode will help monitor the status of implementation of cabinet decisions more effectively."

He said, e-Cabinet is yet another milestone in the green and digital gowth trajectory of the State and strengthens the climate resilience and responsive endeavour. This electronic dynamic platform provides a versatile digital environment and furthers our ambition to be paper-less in continuation of the e-File system adopted earlier this year.

"The e-Cabinet system will add greater efficiency to the government decision making processes and make them more greener, climate friendly, efficient and transparent," Khandu said.

On faunal conservation front, the Cabinet approved the adoption of the rare species of butterfly 'Kaiser-e-Hind' (Teinopalpus imperialis) as the State butterfly.

The Kaiser-i-Hind is one of the very rare and elusive swallowtail butterflies which are found at medium and higher elevations. It flies high in the canopy of broad leaved temperate evergreen forests. Its presence indicates the existence of a good forest ecosystem and protection.

"In view of its rare conservation status, increasing threats, and popular appeal, the Kaiser-i-Hind (Teinopalpus imperialis) has been declared as the State Butterfly of Arunachal Pradesh," official sources said.

In addition, the following institutional changes were decided by the Cabinet to improve the effectiveness to deal with the administration of the environmental resources in the State: Upgradation of Monigong EAC headquarters to ADC HQs under Shi-Yomi district, creation of Circle HQs at Rapum and renaming of the Department of Environment and Forests as the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to provide greater impetus to the climate change response institutional arrangements.
