Excise duty is a form of tax levied on products for their manufacture, distribution and sale.

Excise duty is an indirect tax paid to the Indian government by manufacturers of products. It is the polar opposite of Customs duty in that it applies to goods produced domestically in India, while Customs applies to goods imported from outside the country.

Excise duty was imposed on manufactured goods at the time of abolition, while GST was imposed on the supply of goods and services.
