Arunachal journalists mourn the death of Assam journalist Parag Bhuyan

ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist, the Arunachal Press Club, and the Arunachal Electronic & Digital Media Association mourned over the death of Parag Bhuyan, the senior correspondent of Pratidin group.

“The press bodies of Arunachal Pradesh are deeply saddened by the death of a senior colleague from our neighbouring state. We call upon the Assam Police to conduct a fair and thorough investigation to ensure that all those responsible are arrested and justice is delivered to Bhuyan’s family,” the organizations said in a joint release.

Bhuyan was also a local reporter of Axomiya Khabar and VP of Tinsukia Press Club. He was also the younger brother of Ex-Minister Jagadish Bhuyan.

His employers have alleged that Bhuyan was killed for exposing corruption and illegal activities in his area along the Arunachal-Assam interstate boundary.

Reportedly, Parag Bhuyan was knocked down near his house on the NH-15 while taking a walk on the highway.

The vehicle immediately fled from the spot towards Dirak side of Kakopathar Police Station — near the Assam-Arunachal inter-state border.

He injured scribe was rushed to Aditya Nursing Home in Dibrugarh where he succumbed to his injuries at around 9.50 am yesterday.

According to reports, the vehicle that caused the accident belongs to a person hailing from Samaguri in Namsai.

The vehicle has been seized and both the driver and the helper have been arrested in connection with the case, Investigations are on.

Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday took to his Twitter to comment on the death of journalist Parag Bhuyan from Kakopathar town of Assam. Bhuyan was knocked down by a vehicle on November 11.

Gandhi said that Parag Bhuyan, a journalist exposing the corrupt practices of the BJP leaders, has died under mysterious circumstances. He further added, “My condolences to his bereaved family. In BJP-ruled states like Assam and Madhya Pradesh, journalists are being strangled, while ones doing ‘tamasha’ are getting security.”
