Pasighat: The proposed 12 hours bandh called by Legong Banggo Students’ Union of Arunachal Pradesh on October 23, 2020, has been put on hold for now. The shutdown was called by the body against the alleged failure of the District Administration to free or vacate the "illegally occupied" lands for Sille-Oyan township development. The Union has deferred the proposed bandh after the Deputy Commissioner of Pasighat gave a written assurance to the Union.

Earlier, the Legong Banggo Students’ Union (LBSU) had called for a 12-hour bandh along Ruksin Check-gate, NH-415, and in areas falling under the 37th Pasighat West Assembly Constituency on October 23.

LBSU General Secretary, David Siram revealed that the District Administration has given them a month's time to fulfill the demands made by the union.

“We will wait for the DA for a month to carry out the eviction of all illegally occupied lands meant for the development of township of Sille-Oyan including that of the school and hospital premises”, he said.

LBSU, a prominent Arunachal Pradesh body, has been strongly demanding the eviction of illegal encroachments in the government lands meant for development, especially in the schools and health centre premises under Sille Oyan township area.

At long last, the DA has finally resolved to take action regarding the issue and has directed the concerned HoDs to start working toward the case by serving an eviction notice to the suspected encroachers.

After receiving a written assurance from the DC of Pasighat, the team LBSU has expressed hope that the DA will abide by their given stipulated time of one month with "concrete action". Failing this, the LBSU has said that it will again resort to a "bandh" until the demands are finally met.
