Arunachal Police Departs for Chandigarh to Investigate YouTuber Paras Singh

ITANAGAR: A team of police from Arunachal Pradesh is on its way to Chandigarh on Tuesday to investigate the 'racial profiling' of Arunachalees by Punjab-based Youtuber Paras Singh.

The YouTuber’s recent video created an outrage among the people of Arunachal Pradesh as well as other Northeastern states.

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju informed that he has spoken to Police Commisioner of Ludhiana for urgent Judicial process for transit remand as inter-state arrest so that he can be brought to Arunachal Pradesh.

"Such mindset harms the unity of our country. Union Home Ministry had already issued strong advisories to all States & UTs to ensure protection and dignity of North-East People", said Rijiju reacting to the video.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein strongly condemned the act and demanded an apology. Manipur and Meghalaya Chief Ministers too came in support of Arunachal and condemned the racist slurs uttered by the YouTuber.

In the video, the YouTuber  made some derogatory remarks against  an Arunachal MLA Ninong Ering and also mocked the people of Arunachal Pradesh based on their appearance. He even went on to say that Arunachal doesn’t exist in India.

Meanwhile, Adi Baane Kebag (ABK, the traditional apex, appellate and Supreme Council of Adi tribe of Arunachal Pradesn, has also lodged an FIR against YouTuber Paras Singh for his derogatory remarks against the Arunachal MLA and mocking the people of Arunachal Pradesh in a video.

The FIR has been lodged through ABK’s frontal wing Adi Bane Kebang Youth Wing (ABKYW).

Reacting to his racist slurs, ABK Spokesperson Jobom C Mengu said that they would like to ask the YouTuber  certain questions including “How should an Indian look like?’, “What names are to be considered Indian names?” and “Where should Arunachal Pradesh be geographically located to be permitted to write to Delhi?”

They further appealed to the Arunachal Police and the state government to book Paras under stringent laws against Racism and Prevention of atrocities against scheduled tribes.
