Arunachal Pradesh: DC recommends complete lockdown, Health dept says 'yet to reach threshold limit'

ITANAGAR: In a letter to the Health Secretary, Itanagar Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom recommended complete lockdown in the Itanagar Capital Complex (ICC) owing to the spike in the number of COVID-19 from July 12.

In response to the DC's recommendation, the Health department said that the situation has not to a point where complete lockdown is necessary.

"It was observed by the state health task force that the positivity rate and the bed occupancy ratio display a slight upward trend but are yet to reach the threshold limits warranting enhanced containment measures (complete lockdown) in ICC district", said Principal Health Secretary Dr. Sharaat Chauhan.

Instead of going for complete lockdown, the Health Secretary mulled for certain additional measures to be followed starting from July 12 to July 18.

He advised the DC to continue identifying micro-containment zones where positivity rate is higher than 5% and undertake effective containment/surveillance measures in such zones.

The DC has been given the power to enforce closure and opening of shops/etablishments on either side of the Highway from Naharlagun to Hollangi on alternative days in the coming week.

Strict enforcement of COVID Apprpriate Behaviour among public including no entry without masks in shops and establishments is further advised by the secretary.

The Principal secretary has also informed that the all other directions issued by the Arunachal disaster Mangament Authority on June 30 shall remain in force.

Arunachal Pradesh has recoreded 40,041 cases of COVID-19 as on July 10, 9PM with 4219 active cases.

A total of 35 927 patients have recovered while 200 succumbed to the virus.
