ARUNACHAL PRADESH: GOVERNOR HOLDS MEET WITH OFFICERS

In view of the North Eastern Council’s 67th plenary session, Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra on Saturday held yet another meeting with senior officers of Rural Development, Environment & Forests and Planning Departments at Raj Bhavan here.

The Governor discussed with them various issues including livelihood programmes, catchment area treatment, bamboo development, doubling of farmers’ income and road connectivity, which are to be taken up by him during the 67th plenary session of the regional planning body at Shillong on July 9-10.

While emphasizing that all the Central and State programmes must be implemented in letter and spirit and there must be proper monitoring of all NEC schemes, the Governor said challenges in the implementation of the development programmes must be addressed at the earliest. All efforts should be made to ensure that the benefits of welfare programmes reach the targeted population, he reiterated.

Besides urging the officers to maintain punctuality and meet the common visitors to ameliorate their difficulties, he advised the concerned officers to explore ways and means to double the farmers’ income by addressing the challenges in transportation, storage and marketing of their products.

Taking note of the fact that Arunachal Pradesh has the highest number of bamboo species with 32 species being cultivated by the farmers and 44 others growing naturally in the State, the Governor assured that he would propose for opening a Research cum Development Institute of bamboo cultivation at the NEC. Earlier, the officers briefed the Governor on the issues related to their respective departments for discussion in the ensuing NEC meet.
