ARUNACHAL PRADESH: JHPC ON PRC ISSUE TO MAKE FIELD VISIT TO AFFECTED DISTRICTS

The first meeting of the reconstituted Joint High Power Committee (JHPC) on the PRC issue pertaining to the non APSTs residing in the various districts of State was held at Banquet Hall here on June 29 last, according to a release from DIPR here on Thursday.

It was decided that JHPC will make field visit for verification and survey of the affected districts in July 2018 and will interact with the local indigenous people and other non-APST communities.

Chairing the meeting, JHPC Chairman cum Minister of Environment & Forests, and Social Justice, Empowerment & Tribal Affairs Nabam Rebia while appraising the house of the recent order judgement of the High Court, said that the matter is sensitive one and needs to be pondered seriously before coming to a decision.

In order to bring the matter of PRC to a logical conclusion, he said, we must also analyze the likely socio-economic, cultural and political impact of the PRC issue on the indigenous tribal people of the State.

The meeting was attended by JHPC members namely, Lok Sabha MP Ninong Ering, Changlang North MLA Tesam Pongte, DC Papum Pare, ADC Changlang, representatives of National People’s Party & People’s Party of Arunachal, president & general secretaries of All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union, All Papum Pare District Students’ Union, All Nyishi Students’ Union and Singpho Youth Organization.
