ARUNACHAL PRADESH: WASE AND VDF OF LEKU MEETS TO JOINTLY TACKLE DRUG MENACE

A seven member team from Women against Social Evils, (WASE) East Siang met members of Village Defence Party (VDP) of Leku, Jonai, Assam at Leku village on Saturday to discuss upon tackling drug and other illicit substance menace prevailing in both East Siang and Jonai area.

Informing about the meeting, WASE General Secretary, Joya Tasung Moyong told this scribe that, several inter-state drug peddlers and mafias are moving in and out to Arunachal Pradesh, East Siang District from Leku and Jonai areas. She also informed that, youths from Pasighat and East Siang District are intruding into Leku and some of them have been arrested recently by Assam police.

“We are seriously tensed over the rapid growth of drug addictions among the youth despite our effort to tackle the menace. Even youths (both boys and girls) from well to do families are also found involved into the illegalities.” added Moyong.

The WASE member met Vimol Mili, President, VDP, Dalim Payeng, and adviser, VDP and Hazarika, OC (acting), Jonai and discussed at length to tackle the menace jointly. The VDP also informed WASE members that, youths from outside are restricted to enter the village or pass through it, as many drug peddlers and users take the road from Leku to escape from getting caught or checked at Ruksin check gate by Arunachal Police.

Meanwhile, WASE has alerted and warned the parents of youths who are indulging into such addictions to restrict their children from addictions.
