ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh film 'Water Burial' won the best film award for environmental conservation at the 67th National Films Awards 2021.

'Water Burial' is a Monpa dialect based on Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi's classic Assamese novel Saba Kota Manuh. The film is about an unique tale based on a dark ritual of a tribal tribe in Arunachal Pradesh.

The film, directed by independent filmmaker Shantanu Sen and shot in Monpa dialect, has received excellent reviews for its distinctiveness in showing tribal traditions in the Northeast and drawing mainstream media attention to them.

Arunachal's Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated the entire team on twitter and wrote, “Delighted to know #WaterBurial, a film based on #Monpa dialect of #Arunachal, based on a novel by #YesheDorjeeThongchi Ji has won Best Film Award in environment conservation category at the #NationalFilmsAwards2021. Congratulations to the entire team for the splendid achievement.”
