ITANAGAR: Three youths from Assam have gone missing after the famous Sangam bridge in Arunachal Pradesh collapsed due to a landslide this morning.

The Sangam bridge, which spans the Siyom River in Pangin, Siang district, has been washed away due to a landslide induced by recent heavy rains.

Besides that, a ten-wheeler Dumper truck loaded with boulders also washed away along the bridge.

The missing persons--Rahul Tamang 22 years, Ranjit Sutradhar 21 years, and Mitingo Boro fell into the raging river along with the vehicle.

Due to heavy rain and dangerous river currents, the vehicle and its occupants were unable to be rescued.

As the Sangam bridge collapsed, the Upper Siang district connecting the International border with China cut off completely.

This is Sangam Bridge's second major incident. It had previously been wiped away by the Siang Flood of 2000.

Sangam is the meeting point of the great Siang and the Yomgo (Siyom) that originates in China.

The Lelek Point, located near Rottung village on the Pangin-Pasighat Road, is in ruins.

During this monsoon, a section of the Trans Arunachal Highway was severely damaged, with the road totally swept away, cutting off the West Siang region of Arunachal.

Because of severe rain, the Pangin-Pasighat Road is usually closed near Lelek point.

Last year, the Highway Department rebuilt it. The route connects the districts of Siang, West Siang, Upper Siang, and Shi-Yomi.
