Guwahati, May 24, 2019:

The 2019 Lok Sabha elections, often referred to as the "greatest festival of democracy", has officially come to an end, but perhaps no state has felt election scars as deeply as the frontier State Arunachal Pradesh.

After the election process was carried out in the State amid numerous clashes and violence between the party supporters, the situation is still not completely peaceful. A sitting National People's Party (NPP) MLA Tirong Aboh was even gunned down by militants on May 21. And because of these incidents of violence reported from across the State, many Arunachalis are still afraid.

It is because of this fear that shops and markets have been closed down in the twin capital city Itanagar due to fear psychosis among the traders. They fear that more violence is headed to the streets of Arunachal as the losers of this high-stakes election are expected to begin a fresh round of violence in the State. Thus, to keep any untoward incidences from occurring, a large number of security forces have been deployed along the roads.

It may be mentioned that election has been described as the worst ever by many including the Nyishi Elite Society and NPP politician and Liromoba LAC candidate Jarpum Galmin.

Gamlin had taken to Facebook and condemned the “political assassination” of his colleague and sitting NPP MLA & candidate, Tirong Aboh. Adding that along with Aboh, many of his fellow travellers were assassinated, Gamlin paid his heartfelt condolences to the bereaving family members of the assassinated MLA.

It may be mentioned that the Army on Tuesday sprung into action and launched a massive operation in and around Khonsa in Arunachal Pradesh where suspected militants ambushed the convoy of sitting MLA Tirong Aboh, killing him and 10 others, including his minor son, two personal security officers (PSOs) and some of his relatives.
