Guwahati, November 30, 2019:

Arunachal MP Nining Ering, during a panel discussion at the Inside Northeast Youth Conclave 2019, asserted that the people of Arunachal Pradesh will never allow the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Adding the the people see it as a move to cut off the 'chicken neck corridor' from the rest of India, Ering said that the people of his State will never accept the Bill.

Ering also alleged that over 40 lakh of the 'sons of the soil' have been left out of the final Assam NRC, published on August 31.

These people have been deprived because they did not feel the need to prove their citizenship, as they belong to indigenous communities such as Ahoms, Ering said. Ering also added that the illegal setters and the refugees were the ones who had the urgency to procure the necessary documents, and were, thus, included in the rolls.

Opposing the Government's move to implement the exercise across the nation, Ering said that the people of Arunachal would not allow the Bill to be passed at any cost. "There will be massive protests...it will not be passed at any cost", he said.

Adding to the discussion, Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty, senior journalist of The Wire said, "The (Northeast) region is seen as periphery or land and not people. Consultation, hence, is important when Delhi wants to do NRC or CAB."
